Warme Weather Makes for Great Riding

Yesterday a group of about a dozen took off for a great ride "The Downieville Loop". Ride started from Bert's at 9AM headed up to Truckee to Donner Lake (see photo, over to Nevada City (via old Highway 40) Once there the group headed to Downieville where we stopped for food and fuel. The riding was outstanding, not many cars, mostly two lane fun stuff through the always beautiful Sierra's.

Once we left Downieville the group headed to Sierraville on what has to be one of the best stretches of riding around. From Sierraville over to Truckee and back to South Shore. All in all about 230 miles of fun!

Blue Rider and Son Hit the Road

Blue Rider Dave Higgins and his son Tom (San Francisco) just returned from a late April, twelve day, 2700 miles ride.

Dave and son met up in Death Valley and toured the Las Vegas area, northwestern Arizona and southwestern Utah.

The trip was a blast - perfect weather - no mechanical problems - great scenery.

Dave indicated at the last meeting he would give presentation of his ride once he sorted through his over 1,150 photos. We look forward to hearing about this dream trip.

Saturday Afternoon Ride 9 May

This past Saturday several of us took off for the first weekend ride of the season. Doyle, Mac, Russ, Jim and myself (Mike Berg joined us for the fist part of the ride.)The weather was perfect, the scenery outstanding and we had a great ride that left South Shore over Kingsbury Grade across Foothill to Markleville, over Monitor pass down to Bridgeport and Twin Lakes (See Photo). We had lunch in Bridgeport and rode home via Smith Valley then up and over Monitor Pass again. A simply incredible day!

Get your motor running

Choppers will be rolling into Victorian Square in Sparks for the Street Vibrations Spring Rally June 5-7, another iteration of the popular Street Vibrations rally held in the fall. Events include live entertainment, bike games, competition ride-in shows, poker runs and walks, more than 80 vendors and more. Entertainer (and motorcycle enthusiast) Travis Tritt is headlining the entertainment lineup at John Ascuaga’s Nugget on June 6.

Blue Riders Have Iron Butts

That right two blue riders Eric and Rankin did the deed by riding from Lake Tahoe to Phoenix Arizona. Eric had been planning the trip for a number of months and both he and Rankin made the trek in the alloted time. According to Rankin he was on his bike for 15 hours. Both Eric and Rankin are to be congratulated! We look forward to hearing about it at the next Blue Rider meeting.

As I look at the weather for the next week it appears change is definitely in the air with the weekend projected to be up around 60 degrees. As such with the powers vested in me (none really) I declare the 2009 riding season open this Saturday. Let's everyone be safe and remember many of us have not ridden in months so take your time getting used to riding again.

First Ride

While I know a number of Blue Riders have been riding all winter having stored their bikes in Cameron Park, unfortunately I have not. But I did get my bike out for a nice shakedown ride through south shore yesterday. Besides being rusty and cold it was great. Spring is coming and with that the potential for consistent weather and riding. Let’s see.
